The Morning After: Birthdays' Birmingham Invasion
They might have started their tenure as Dalston’s latest premiere gig hangout a couple of months ago but, with building finally completed, Birthdays threw their official opening party last night with the help of two of the best new bands in the country.
Birmingham boys Swim Deep opened with a sublime set including ‘King City’, ‘Honey’ and a cover of 90s popstar Gabrielle’s ‘Dreams’ before handing over the baton to fellow Midlanders Peace.
Despite some apparent issues with the lights midway through, the band played an impressive but short set including recent b-side ‘Li’l Echo’ and gorgeous new track ‘California Daze.’ Ramping up the party atmosphere, Peace finished with a powerful one-two of ‘Follow Baby’ and ‘Bblood’, setting off a confetti cannon as the latter kicked in to end a brilliant night in celebration of one of London’s most exciting new venues.
