Hot off the back of the release of their debut album, An Awesome Wave, last night ∆ or Alt-J swung by London’s Corsica Studios. They may have had to postpone the previous night’s show in Birmingham due to their equipment being lost in transit from France, but this hiccup didn’t seem to have any effect at all on last night’s performance.
From the dirty, driving synths of ‘Fitzpleasure’ to the gentle, harmony-laden ‘Ms’, ∆’s set was as good as impeccable from beginning to end. Unsurprisingly, ‘Breezeblocks’ and ‘Tesselate’ were among the highlights, but ‘Matilda’ and set closer ‘Taro’ seemed to be the real crowd-pleasers. People have been saying all sorts of things about this band for some time now and, as one particularly polite heckler succinctly (and loudly) put it, last night ∆ were indeed “really nice.”
