Swim Deep celebrate their record deal at Sebright Arms
Last night, Birmingham-based four piece band Swim Deep – who recently signed a major label deal with RCA – played their first headline show to a sold-out crowd at the Sebright Arms in East London. Aesthetically and musically, these lads work a muted beach vibe. The stage was decorated with sunshine-shaped piñatas, but one of them was wearing a Nirvana t-shirt.
They played an eight-song set which lasted about 35 minutes, and ‘King City’ and ‘Honey’ were the clear standouts. Despite the fact that they’re a young band, Swim Deep has already begun to develop a devoted and enthusiastic fan base. There was an endearing moment halfway through the first chorus of ‘King City,’ when they realised that the crowd knew the words to the song, and they were visibly shocked and delighted. “I wanna be rich, I want to show off,” they continued to sing, with a shy but growing confidence.
