ROSALÍA is enchanting at her biggest London show to date, Live at the Somerset House Summer Series
“When I came to London, I saw all these musicals and I wanted to perform. It’s amazing to be here with the people and it’s an honour”
At only 25 years old, and with two Latin Grammys under her belt, Barcelona born ROSALÍA is at an all time high. Fresh from a string of European festivals and, with a bunch of colossal collaborations to her name, it’s impossible to deny that she has had a fantastic year. Playing her biggest London show to date, ROSALÍA took to Somerset House to perform as part of their Summer Series.
Dressed in a pink flamenco-inspired outfit, ROSALÍA looked flawless as she wove her way through intricate dance routines and opened with “PENSO TU EN MIRÁ”. Since the release of her albums Los àngeles and El Ma Querer, ROSALÍA has featured on a wealth of other people’s work and James Blake collaboration “Barefoot In The Park” gets an early airing while J Balvin’s “Brillo” is covered faithfully.
Flanked by six dancers, ROSALÍA played an energetic set rooted in the traditions of her native Catalunian culture. Taking a break from the proceedings, you could hear a pin drop as she sung traditional song “Catalina” before launching into “QUE NO SALGA LA LUNA”. With only a simple stage set up, the percussive claps of tracks like “DI MI NOMBRE” and "BAGDAD" were accentuated by four backing singers and textural beats.
Having released two concept-heavy albums, tracks from 2018's El Ma Querer such as "MALAMENTE” and recent singles “Con Altura” and “Aute Cuture” garnered the biggest reaction of the night, earning her a well deserved encore.
Returning to an electric atmosphere, ROSALÍA paused for a moment to take it all in and to talk to her adoring crowd, before handing someone a pink jewelled fan: “I’m gonna give this to you because I saw you singing all the time”. Finishing off with new singles “Dio$ No$ Libre Del Dinero” and an acapella version of “Milionària” we were sent off in to the night, happy to catch a glimpse of Spain's sound of the summer.
ROSALÍA finishes her European tour with a festival performance at Switzerland’s Gurtenfestival and her latest single F*cking Money Man is out now.
