Claire play Hoxton Square Bar And Kitchen
Sandwiched between shows at Soho’s Madame JoJo’s and the indie stalwart Notting Hill Arts Club, electro-poppers Claire entertained a typically bustling Hoxton Square Bar last night.
Following an eye-catching set from pop-star in the making Leon Else, the Munich five-piece took to the stage accompanied by an eerie reverberating din and the pounding of toms. Their feel-good brand of dance-infused “neon-pop” immediately rubs off, as front-woman Josie Claire Bürkle’s persistent smile and exuberant energy adds to the infectious sounds they make.
“Broken Promise Land” with its dreamy chorus and 80′s drum samples, and wonderfully radio-ready single “Games“, kick-offed the short set – its middle section made up from subtler pop outings – before the final two tracks explode back into life with darker industrial power.
The combination of Bürkle’s immaculate vocal, the bands twitching electric guitar punctuation and boisterous synth and drum work, on top of their obvious knack for a hook, set Claire in good stead to take-on the UK’s dance-flavoured mainstream alongside the likes of Mausi and CHVRCHES.
