The Last Dinner Party win BBC Radio 1s Sound of 2024 poll
London five-piece The Last Dinner Party have been selected as BBC Radio 1's Sound Of 2024 winners.
The Last Dinner Party were chosen as BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2025 by a panel of industry experts and artists including the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Declan McKenna and Chase & Status. They now join the likes of PinkPantheress, Adele, Celeste, and Sam Smith who have previously won the prize, and FLO who were last year's winners.
Florence Welch broke the news to them, and speaking to the BBC, she said: ""I think the nuances of femininity almost always get lost in rock, but when I saw The Last Dinner Party playing in their dresses and their chiffon, while being so fierce and ferocious, I was like, 'This is it!'"
Speaking of their win, the band said: “BBC Radio has championed us and so many other young artists from the start of their careers, we still can’t believe it every time we hear one of our songs being played. Every artist who has been nominated or won over the years is such a powerhouse, it humbles us to join their ranks." Later adding, "Thank you to guitar music for never dying. Bands are back, baby.”
The Last Dinner Party are the first guitar band to win the accolade since HAIM won over a decade ago.
Other acts in the top five list of BBC Radio 1's Sound of 2024 poll are Olivia Dean, DJ Peggy Gou, rising South African artist Tyla, and Elmiene. The full nominated list included Ayra Starr, Caity Baser, CMAT, Kenya Grace, and Sekou.
Yesterday, The Last Dinner Party released "Caesar On A TV Screen" as the latest single to be taken from their forthcoming debut album, Prelude To Ecstacy. Closing out last year, they were given BRIT’s Rising Star Award 2024 and heralded as Rolling Stone UK’s “Rising Stars” at their inaugural 2023 Awards.
"Caesar On A TV Screen" is out now. Prelude To Ecstasy will be released on 2 February via Island Records.
