The Comet Is Coming cancel their last ever show in support of Palestine
London-based psychedelic jazz band The Coming Is Coming were set to play their final show at Bratislavské Jazzové 2023.
Out of solidarity for the ongoing war between Palestine and Israel, they have decided to cancel their last ever show.
In a statement, they wrote: "We have decided to cancel our concert tonight in Bratislava. We stand in solidarity with the global call to strike by our Palestinian brothers and sister who are in the midst of a genocidal assault. This was to be our final show. Our last statement is a call for immediate ceasefire, an end to the illegal occupation of Palestine and routine violence against the Palestinian people."
This comes just a day after Habibi Funk cancelled their upcoming DJ shows in Turkey, and supported Radio Alhara's calls for a cultural strike. "music is a force to heal but right now we personally wouldn’t know how to utilize this power in a party setting. we apologize to the promoters of the events, ticket holders and our fellow artists on the line up, we hopefully can do these parties in a better time in the future," they wrote.

"As we witness the genocide that is happening in Gaza, and the silence that surrounds it, we call on musicians to go on strike," Radio Alhara wrote in their statement calling for a cultural strike. "We call on all musicians to cancel their gigs and concerts tomorrow and in the coming days to confront the violence of silence in Palestine."
The statement continued: "We understand that music is essential for reflecting and mourning, but a silence that gives space for Palestinian voices to resonate is urgent. Many in our communities speak of the power and force of music to heal, but we must acknowledge that there is a distinction between that [which] respects and honours, and a silence that kills."
The Comet Is Coming have performed together for the past decade, with their 2016 debut album, Channel The Spirits, was nominated for a Mercury Prize. Their final release was last year's Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam, and 2019's Trust In The Lifeforce of the Deep Mystery.
