Taylor Swift on Beyoncé's influence over her: "She's been a guiding light throughout my career"
Last night (11 October) was the premiere of Taylor Swift's concert film, TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR.
The film was recorded over the first three of six nights that Swift played at the SoFi stadium in California in August, and is being directed by Sam Wrench, whose previous work includes; Brandi Carlile's In the Canyon Haze Live, Billie Eilish Live at the O2, Lizzo: Live in Concert, and BTS: Permission to Dance on Stage.
Forget Barbenheimer – the most culturally relevant events over the past year have been the huge world tours that both Beyoncé and Swift have embarked on, over the past few months. The Renaissance Tour and The Eras Tour have taken social media by storm, with Swifties and the Beyhive battling over who is the GOAT, but last night, at the premiere of TAYLOR SWIFT | THE ERAS TOUR, the artists came together to prove that there is no competition. They are two women at the top of their game who are celebrating each other's successes.
Posting a boomerang of the pair sat in the cinema with popcorn, Taylor Swift took a moment to discuss Beyoncé's influence on her life – both as a fan and as an artist.
"I’m so glad I’ll never know what my life would’ve been like without @beyonce‘s influence. The way she’s taught me and every artist out here to break rules and defy industry norms. Her generosity of spirit. Her resilience and versatility. She’s been a guiding light throughout my career and the fact that she showed up tonight was like an actual fairytale."
Fans have been quick to notice that Beyoncé isn't one to turn up to many social events, so whilst fans have been trying to create competition between the pair, the reality is quite the opposite. Both have had record breaking years, and throughout their respective tours, have given back to the fans and communities that have helped them along the way.
Swift reportedly gave a bonus of $100k to each truck driver on The Eras Tour, and her fans helped to raise money for a fan who was killed following one of her shows, whilst Béyonce paid $100k for Metro to run for an extra hour following delayed show in Washington, DC, and joined forces with her Destiny's Child bandmate Kelly Rowland to combat homelessness in Houston, in an initiative that launched during the time The Renaissance Tour made it to the Southern state.
Beyoncé is set to release her own concert film, Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, which is set to “accentuate the journey [of the tour] from its inception to the opening show in Stockholm, Sweden, to the grand finale in Kansas City, Missouri. It is about Beyoncé’s intention, hard work, involvement in every aspect of the production, her creative mind and purpose to create her legacy, and master her craft.”
