Tallinn Music Week experiences record-breaking number of artist applications for 2023
Tallinn Music Week has revealed that close to 2000 artists - a record-breaking number - have applied to play the 2023 edition of the festival.
In May 2023 the 15th edition of Tallinn Music Week will take place across various venues in the Estonian capital, and organisers have revealed that a record-breaking number of artists have applied to play next year's festival.
Tallinn Music Week had 1974 artist submissions across 85 countries for 2023, and the majority of those applications (325) came from the UK. The 2022 edition of Tallinn Music Week had 1413 applications from 74 countries.
201 of the 2023 artist applications came from Germany, followed by 158 submissions from Estonia. Italy, Finland, Canada, Poland, USA, Spain and Latvia also made the list of countries with the most artist submissions.
Tallinn Music Week's Head of Music Taavi Esperk said, "It is a pleasure to see that the message of TMW as a positive connector has spread around the world. Besides getting such great results from the leading music markets like the UK, Germany, Italy and even the US, we are very glad that nearly 40 Ukrainian artists are wishing to perform at TMW. Additionally, we will take a closer look at the evolving scenes of Baltics and Poland and will once again highlight the trendsetting sounds of Africa and its diasporas."
The artist applications, which closed on Monday (12 December), will be reviewed by TMW’s team of music curators, which is made up of representatives of both Estonian and international music organisations, and experts in various genres and scenes. The 2023 line-up of will be revealed between February and March 2023.
