Talking Heads to reunite for 40th anniversary screening of Stop Making Sense
David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads are set to make their first public appearance together in over two decades.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of their iconic concert film, Stop Making Sense, Byrne, Weymouth, Frantz, and Harrison will appear together publicly for the first time since their 2002 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
The group will partake in a Q&A moderated by filmmaker Spike Lee, before the newly restored version of Stop Making Sense premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival.
A24 recently acquired the rights to Stop Making Sense, which was directed by the late Jonathan Demme, and is releasing a 4K restoration of the film. That restoration will debut at TIFF, and subsequently will be live streamed into IMAX theatres around the world.
The original Stop Making Sense was shot over three nights during four shows at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles in December 1983 and has since been added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
The infamous concert film features performances of classic hits such as “Psycho Killer,” “Slippery People,” “Burning Down the House,” and “Once in a Lifetime,” as well as Frantz/Weymouth side project Tom Tom Club’s iconic track “Genius of Love”.
Accompanying the film will be a new deluxe edition of its soundtrack. The expanded set includes the film’s full setlist as well as two previously unreleased songs, plus new liner notes from all four band members.
The deluxe edition of the Stop Making Sense soundtrack will be available on 18 August via Rhino Records and is available to pre-order now.
