Talk Show release the brand new single, "Closer"
"Closer" is the brand new single from South London's new wave punks Talk Show, and is the first taste of their forthcoming debut album, which is set for release next year.
Produced by Remi Kabaka (Gorillaz), the single draws on everything from The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy to Nine Inch Nails and The KLF. Talk Show continues to lean into the raw, primal sound at the intersection of techno, electronic, industrial, and rock music that informed their 2022 EP, Touch The Ground.
“Utilizing the repetition on "Closer" allowed me to build a rhythm and raise the stakes and put new meaning into the line each time. Working with Remi really helped me harness how much nuance I could put into my phrasing, how much more powerful it could be to whisper than to shout. We wanted to take you from standing outside in the freezing cold straight into the heart of the sweatbox," says frontman Harrison Swann.
"Closer", which arrives with a video directed by Ashley Rommelrath, grew from visual queues, specifically a club/warehouse space imagined by the band, influenced by the night club in Blade and the Happy Mondays’ video for "Rope For Luck".
Asking themselves “If we were playing in that club, what would we play, how would we play?” Talk Show built the track around question and answer phrases between the guitars and vocals, with tight drumming driving the momentum.
"Closer" is out now.
