SZA says Doja Cat didn't feature on "Shirt" because of "emergency surgery"
SZA has revealed that Doja Cat didn't end up featuring on "Shirt" because she had to have "emergency surgery".
Back in summer SZA teased that "Shirt" would feature Doja Cat while performing at Wireless Festival, but when SZA finally released the single in October, Doja Cat wasn't on the track. Top Dawg Entertainment's Punch did state earlier in October that Doja Cat would be more likely to feature on a remix of SZA's "Shirt" rather than the original track, and while speaking to HOT 97 yesterday (6 December), SZA revealed the collaboration didn't end up happening due to Doja Cat's "emergency surgery".
SZA explained, "She had surgery - she had to have that emergency like vocal cord surgery and she wasn't ready in the time that we needed to get the song done ... I hope for the best and I'm still like a major fan of her and her artistry and I think she's so incredible."
SZA added, "I would love to get her on the deluxe. I would love to get a few people on the deluxe, but hopefully - we'll see."
Earlier this week SZA revealed the full tracklist for her Ctrl follow-up, which features collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Don Toliver and Travis Scott.
SZA will release her S.O.S. album this Friday, 9 December through TDE/RCA Records.
