Spencer Tweedy releases free album of drum recordings for people to sample
Jeff Tweedy's son Spencer has shared a free album of 10 drum tracks, and he wants people to sample them and share their own recordings.
Yesterday (13 February) Spencer Tweedy released drumprints vol. 1: 2301 on Bandcamp, a 10-track album up for free - or a price of the buyer's choice. The album features 10 drum recordings at different tempos, and Tweedy wants people to adapt the tracks for their own recordings in return for a credit.
Tweedy wrote, "Take a bar, take 8 bars, take 16, 32… jump around and find something to loop, or use the whole track. Sing on it, rap, play bass, blow a jug. Slow it down, speed it up, chop, process, distort.
"These drum recordings are free for you to adapt. If you use them, please email me (me@spencertweedy.com) to show me what you’ve made. If you release it, please include a credit similar to this: “Drum samples by Spencer Tweedy’s Drumprints." (See more info on the CC-BY 4.0 license below.)
"You can also listen just for the sake of listening. It’s sequenced to be as album-like as possible :)"
Earlier this month Spencer's dad Jeff Tweedy announced his new book World Within A Song: Music That Changed My Life and Life That Changed My Music, which will follow his 2020 book How To Write One Song, and 2018's Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back).
