South London-based artist Marged returns with "Bounce Back"
South London-based, Welsh artist Marged has returned after a six year hiatus with the brand new single, “Bounce Back”.
Telling the story of self-determination as she reclaims her spirit after a break-up, Marged's new single was produced alongside long term friend and pop’s favourite Sakima (Troye Sivan, Little Mix, Tate McRae).
The accompanying music video shows a patriarchal juxtaposition as Marged dominates the space performing to camera and holding strong poses in Peckham Men’s Liberal Club. Reclaiming a male space as an assertive woman Marged leans into her feminine energy as she dances and moves her body freely around the club.
“I wanted to create a world where a woman's anger and self-assuredness could be expressed freely without consequence. The held statuesque poses slowly unravelling into rapid movements symbolise the process of reclaiming our bodies, again and again. Through these movements, I explore what it feels like to call on my body to support me through surviving violence and living in a world that continues to dehumanise my body," Marged explains. "
I hope the video portrays defiance, joy, cockiness, and a sense of certainty. Directing both the movement and the video was so important for me, enabling me to express myself fully, responding to my experiences with power and honouring the sacrifices I've made to be here. It's about moving on my own terms, even when it's painful, with nobody to answer to but myself.”
