Sophie May unveils new single, "Brian Cox" featuring the eponymous physicist
Sophie May has shared new single "Brian Cox" which features its namesake, and is taken from her forthcoming EP Deep Sea Creatures.
"Brian Cox" finds Sophie contemplating the expanse of the universe and the foreboding weight of the infinite cosmos.
Expanding on the single, Sophie shares: “I wrote ‘Brian Cox’ after listening to Brian Cox talk about black holes and the way they interact with the universe. I felt both awe inspired and completely terrified. I’ve been a big fan of Brian and his work since I was young, so it only felt right to name the song after him. Amazingly through creating this track I somehow managed to get the chance to meet him. Very kindly, he re-recorded a snippet of himself talking about the moons of Jupiter, which you can hear in the bridge. Getting to meet him and incorporate his voice into the track felt like an incredible full circle moment where (no pun intended) the stars had aligned.”
Sophie May has also announced she will be headlining London’s Camden Assembly on 24 July, alongside supporting dates with Searows later this year. Deep Sea Creatures is the follow up to Sophie’s acclaimed second EP Worst Thoughts In The World released last year.
Commenting on Deep Sea Creatures, Sophie says: “My third EP Deep Sea Creatures includes 5 tracks that were predominantly written from my bedroom over the past year. Each song leans into all things existential, varying from the overwhelming size of our solar system to the inability to escape your own thoughts. I feel as though these songs are a good representation of the most important factors of my life, my biggest fears, biggest loves and the appreciation I have for the world around me.”
Deep Sea Creatures is set for release on 26 July via Sound On.
