Someone sent a stranger's cremated remains to Hamilton Leithauser's Brooklyn apartment
Hamilton Leithauser of The Walkmen has revealed he received a stranger's ashes at his Brooklyn apartment earlier this week, and wants to reunite the remains with the right family.
Just last week The Walkmen announced their first London shows in a decade, and this week the band's lead vocalist Hamilton Leithauser received something strange in the post at his Brooklyn apartment.
According to the New York Post, Leithauser received a stranger's cremated ashes from 2017. He said, "It’s just sort of shocking. I’m like, ‘What am I supposed to do with these? This was a person. You have to show a little respect."
Leithauser has tried to call the funeral home the ashes came from, but they were unwilling to help, aside from letting slip that they tried to send the remains to someone named Robbie. He explained, "He said something like, ‘It’s your problem now, and he actually hung up on me. He was a total a—hole."
He added, "I’d love to meet Robbie and give him the ashes, or give them to a family member or someone who cares."
Leithauser also said, "Not to get overly sentimental but my mother died last year and we have her ashes. Now I feel attached to old Walt. Nobody came to claim the dude."
Since the New York Post reached out to the funeral home about the ashes, one of the workers has reportedly retrieved the remains from Leithauser.
Tickets for The Walkmen's KOKO shows go on general sale tomorrow, 3 February at 10am GMT via thewalkmen.com.
