Solange has been "writing music for the tuba"
In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Solange has revealed that she's been writing music for the tuba and may release it in the future.
Solange's last official music release was the 2019 album, When I Get Home, which contained features from Tyler, The Creator, Sampha, Panda Bear, and more. Her 2022 work on Eldorado Ballroom – a music performance series for the Brooklyn Academy of Music – saw her become only the second ever Black woman to compose a score for New York City Ballet. Now, she reveals that she's been writing tuba music.
“I’ve started writing music for the tuba, and I am trying to talk myself into releasing it, but I can only imagine the eye rolls from people being like, this bitch hasn’t made an album," she told Harper's Bazaar. “It sounds like what the gut feels like to me. There’s a way that it takes up space that you can’t deny, and it also just feels very Black to me.”

Solange kicked off 2024 with a four-act performance entitled, In Service To Whom, which is the latest art-piece to be launched via Saint Heron – her platform for expanding conversations about music, art, design, and culture.
"As I contemplate the evolution and maturation of my artistry, “In Service To Whom” was developed around constructing new narratives surrounding my body, the posture of rest, protection from the gaze, and speaks to a reemergence into the world of everyday life following periods of personal incubation and self-revitalisation," she wrote on Instagram, announcing the performance piece."
