Sofia Coppola reveals she wanted to have Lana Del Rey feature on Priscilla soundtrack
In a recent interview with E! News, Sofia Coppola revealed that she had tried to collaborate with Lana Del Rey on the soundtrack to her film Priscilla.
Priscilla is the biographical drama film based on the 1985 memoir Elvis and Me by Priscilla Presley, which follows the romance between the pair, told from her own perspective. Despite being biographical, the film doesn’t feature Elvis’ actual music because Authentic Brands Group, the majority owner of Elvis Presley Enterprises, decided not to accept Sofia Coppola’s offer for the rights in using any of his songs.
The soundtrack includes songs such as "Going Home" by Alice Coltrane, "Crimson and Clover" by Tommy James and the Shondells, "Baby, I Love You" by The Ramones, and "Wade in the Water" by The Soul Stirrers. Coppola has now recently revealed that she tried to coordinate with Lana Del Rey, to have a song of hers feature in the movie.

“I’m learning that people really connect Lana Del Rey and Priscilla and I didn’t realise that, but I got a lot of requests with, ‘How is she gonna be a part of the movie?’” Coppola said to E! News. “We were hoping she could do a song for it, but it didn’t work out with the timing."
Lana Del Rey has previously referenced Elvis in her lyrics, and also has a demo titled “Elvis” which is featured in Eugene Jarecki’s Elvis documentary, The King, in 2017.
Priscilla is set for release on 1 January via A24.
