Sky Ferreira responds to rumours she's being held hostage by her label Capitol Records: "It's true"
Sky Ferreira fans have reportedly bought a billboard in Times Square which reads "FREE SKY FERREIRA", and say she’s being “held hostage” by Capitol Records.
An Instagram fan account for the American singer-songwriter, which has been active since March 2021, has been campaigning for the Ferreira’s release from her record label. “Sky Ferreira has been held hostage by her label Capitol Records for almost a decade,” a pinned post says. “They’ve been blocking the release of her sophomore album Masochism since 2015.”
They've recently shared footage of a billboard in Times Square which reads "FREE SKY FERREIRA", and confirmed that it is a real billboard which appears to have been organised by themselves. The billboard has been noticed by Sky Ferreira herself, who appears to confirm that she is in fact being held hostage by her label.

Ferreira's second album, Masochism, is set to follow her 2013 debut Night Time, My Time. Last year, she hinted at its release date by sharing an image of Stereogum's most anticipated albums of 2022, which featured her name in the number four spot, and wrote, "Top 5 most anticipated albums of 2022 ... (It happens every year but it's actually coming out this time".
In May of 2022, she released the new single, "Don't Forget", which made the prospects of an album release seem quite promising. The track followed her 2019 single "Downhill Lullaby". In an Instagram post, Ferreira wrote, ""Don’t Forget" is out now. Fire baptism. This song has lived 9,000 lives (versions). This album is finally real. 9 years later. It’s real. So many things I’ve wanted to say for so long…it’s arrived & my mind is blank. Thank you for supporting my music."
The album never saw its "promised" release in 2022, and earlier this year, she spoke out about the lack of new music, saying her situation is "beyond fucked up" and she's "so frustrated & over it".

There is still no set release date for Sky Ferreira's second album.
