Sheryl Crow on Drake using AI Tupac vocals: "It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us"
In an interview with BBC, Sheryl Crow voiced her concerns over the use of AI in music.
Referencing Drake's track "Taylor Made Diss" on which he used AI to replace Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac Shakur's vocals, she said: “You cannot bring people back from the dead and believe that they would stand for that. I’m sure Drake thought, ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t do it, but I’ll say sorry later.’ But it’s already done, and people will find it even if he takes it down. It’s hateful. It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us.”
Following a cease and desist from 2Pac's estate, Drake removed the song from online. In a letter to Drake, the family lawyer Howard E. King said: “The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorised use of Tupac’s voice and personality. Not only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time."

The title track of Sheryl Crow's latest album, Evolution, speaks about the impact of AI on people and the planet. Speaking further to BBC she said that AI is “a betrayal” that “goes against everything humanity is based on”.
She also added that she's worried about future generations, and often speaks to her children about it. “I'm like, ‘You're growing up with this thing and it doesn't seem dangerous to you because you're a frog in a pot of water. But the water is only just starting to boil, and you won’t realise it's getting hotter until we're all floating on the top’.”
