Sault face backlash over ticket prices of their debut show: "frankly you're just being plain greedy"
For the past two weeks, Ivor Novello award-winning collective Sault have been teasing their debut live show. Following a lack of details, and an instant sell-out earlier today, fans have been left rather disappointed.
The teasers began on 25 November, when the collective posted on Instagram which read: “SAULT LIVE, LONDON, 2023”. A second post followed which revealed that they would be performing an unreleased album live "for the first and only time”.
Yesterday, they posted a photo to their Instagram account announcing that they would be playing a show on Thursday (14 December), and that tickets would be on sale today, giving fans 24hr notice to decide whether they would be able to attend. No information on ticket prices or venue, was shared.
Going from giving away five albums for free to charging £99 for a ticket to your first live show?

You're charging the kind of money comparable with legendary arena artists with 30+ years of back catalogue. I love your music, but frankly you're just being plain greedy guys.
As expected, tickets for Sault's debut London show sold out incredibly quickly – within four minutes – which was a disappointment to many budding concertgoers. Though the collective are facing backlash for their exclusionary ticket price of £99.
The comments on the Instagram post are filled with angry fans who feel as though the band are being greedy with the price of tickets, and also are not happy with the choice of venue. "Sorry £100 per ticket? For DRUMSHEDS? With 3 days notice? Do you hate us?????," one user wrote.
"£99 for a ticket?!?! This is crazy. Especially when Drumsheds is a bad venue, too big, bad sound and you can’t really see at the back. Shocked and disappointed and this level of greed especially in the current time," another Instagram user wrote, with the general consensus that it's an unfair ticket price, especially being so close to Christmas.
Nah I am gobsmacked. The same Sault who gave us 5 albums as an offering to God last year want £100 for their FIRST live show ever???

One person on Instagram wrote: "Music used to be for the people. Your music speaks to people in need. Your pricing policy doesn’t," with others echoing the sentiment of the collective going against their own ethics, and not being inclusive.
"guys - £100 a ticket for a 15,000 capacity venue is so disappointing. What about making your music accessible to the people who actually listen to you", and "Wow such a disappointing thing that you release through ticket master, one of the worst companies available. Completely goes against your music's ethics".
