Sarah Julia announce their debut EP, How Do We Go Back To Being Normal?
Amsterdam based sisters Sarah Julia have announced the release of their debut EP, How Do We Go Back To Being Normal?.
Following the release of their poignant debut single "Cairngorms", the duo have shared the EP’s second single, "Mount Fuji", inspired by the Japanese tale of Princess Kaguya.
“The song is about losing someone and wondering if that person will come back to you. It’s about wallowing in the feeling of not knowing and longing for someone’s return," they explain. "Julia was playing the guitar and mumbling words, the first line of the song was born out of her mumbles. Very soon Sarah remembered the story she read about princess Kaguya, and from there the story told itself.”
While writing How Do We Go Back To Being Normal?., Sarah Julia found themselves creating in the midst of grief, and in turn, aimed to capture that time of their lives. They add, “The EP is about becoming independent. Dealing with unexpected changes and realising that you can draw much more from yourself to move forward, instead of wishing for the other person to change. It’s also about nostalgia for a time when everything seemed simple on the surface and redefining the relationship between us and our parents.”
Following their first ever intimate live appearance in the UK in late 2023, Sarah Julia also announce a number of headline shows in London, Amsterdam and Antwerp to take place this May and June in celebration of the EP’s release. They play London’s OMEARA on Wednesday 22 May.
How Do We Go Back To Being Normal? will be released on 10 April via AWAL, and is available to pre-save now.
