Samia shares the brand new release, “To Me It Was (Hovvdy Version)”
The Austin, TX pop duo Hovvdy puts their stamp on “To Me It Was", which features on Honey Reimagined.
Today Samia shares “To Me It Was (Hovvdy Version)” –– the third in a series of single releases dubbed Honey Reimagined, featuring a variety of artists (including Blondshell, Maya Hawke and more) reinterpreting songs from Honey, the second album from Samia, which was released earlier this year.
This forthcoming series of singles is inspired by 2021's The Baby Reimagined compilation, which featured versions of songs from Samia’s breakthrough debut LP, The Baby, recorded by Bartees Strange, Briston Maroney, MICHELLE, Anjimile, Christian Lee Hutson and more.
“"To Me It Was" is one of a few songs on Honey that existed in a bunch of different iterations before its final form. I wrote it with Christian Lee Hutson a year before we started making the record. We both played separate versions live in our sets a few times," Samia reveals.
"When I first started playing it out it was this big rave up of a rock song. In the studio and in the context of the record the song just made more sense stripped down, with this really warm back porch feeling. Hovvdy turning it into a bedroom pop song feels exactly right - the perfect middle ground.” Hovvdy adds, “It was an honour to cover and get to know such a well-written and beautiful song."
Samia is set to perform at End of the Road this weekend, as well as at Electric Picnic ahead of her biggest UK headline show to date at the O2 Kentish Town Forum, supported by Art School Girlfriend on 5 September.
