Rihanna is cast as Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs movie
The Smurfs Movie is a new live-action/animation hybrid feature that’s on the way from Paramount.
The news was announced last night (27 April) at the Las Vegas convention CinemaCon. “I tried to get the Papa Smurf role but it didn’t work out,” she joked, as Variety reports. It was revealed that as well as starring in the project, Rihanna be a producer, as well as writing and recording original songs for the soundtrack.
No stranger to the screen, Rihanna has previously voiced DreamWorks animated feature Home, whilst her live-action screen credits include Battleship, This Is the End, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Ocean’s 8, and Guava Island.
The Smurfs Movie – which is to be directed by Chris Miller – is scheduled to be released on 14 February 2025.
Rihanna recently made history as the second most-watched halftime show at the Super Bowl, earlier this year. Coming just behind Katy Perry who performed in 2015.
