rEDOLENT announce their forthcoming debut album, dinny greet
Fresh from being nominated as BBC Introducing Scottish Act of the Year, Edinburgh five-piece band rEDOLENT have announced the release of their forthcoming debut album, dinny greet.
Alongside the announcement of their debut album, rEDOLENT have shared the title track from the forthcoming release, which means ‘don’t cry’ in Scots.
Speaking about the meaning behind the song, frontman Robin Herbert explains, “It’s about living with someone and sharing their mood. Trying to keep it positive, to tackle life together. It’s little snapshots of things I’ve heard or said; me and Alice trying to cheer each other up in the depths of lockdown depression. Either with some daft fantasy: “We’ll go out in new clothes every night”, “neither of your parents will ever die”. Or by just reminding each other that it’s not so bad with the simple things: “The sun’s between the blinds”, “You’re off tomorrow”. It’s a hopeful prod of encouragement to try and be happy with what you have. Because it’s often so much more than you think.”
“It’s a cheer up album about not letting the bad get the best of you, by trying to turn it into something positive," Herbert continues. "And making the most of the good times when they’re around. It’s built up of snapshots from my life that I felt like people could relate to: being stuck in a hellish job, debilitating mental health stuff, addiction. And some nice stuff too: travelling together, teenage misadventure, a summer of skating with people I hadn’t seen in a while. It’s about trying to enjoy the ride. It’s about keeping going, pursuing creativity at all costs.”
rEDOLENT will support the album release with a run of tour dates this spring, including headline shows in London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.
