Red Scare's Dasha Nekrasova confirms Charli XCX wrote “Mean Girls” about her

American actress and co-host of the Red Scare podcast, Dasha Nekrasova, has revealed that Charli XCX's track "Mean Girls" is about her.

Charli XCX's latest album, BRAT, is one of the most talked about releases as of late, with topics ranging from "generational trauma to body image issues to an obsession with the Billboard chart, and singing about how her jealousy of other pop stars can drive her to suicidal ideation", as BEST FIT wrote in the 9/10 review.

In an interview with The Face, Charli revealed that one song on the album was about her “fascination with mean girls”, inspired in part by Dasha Nekrasova and by Charli’s own interest in why “succubus-looking, dead-eyed women” like herself and her friend Gabriette Bechtel are often passed off as being mean.

Now, on the Red Scare podcast, Nekrasova confirms that it is indeed the track, "Mean Girls". “Yeah, the Charli song is kind of like a party girl anthem. It’s a great song. She sent it to me a couple of months ago and told me about it," she said to co-host Anna Khachiyan.

“It speaks to an idea people maybe have about me as like a naughty downtown and noisy party girl,” Nekrasova continued, “But actually you’re a bedridden recluse,” Anna Khachiyan interjects. Nekrasova then laughs that she is a kind of squirrely loser", but “Happy to be a muse whenevs, you know... if she did want to write a song about lying in bed, I’d probably listen to that one too.”

BRAT is out now.
