RAYE cover Nina Simone and Billie Holiday at Montreux Jazz Festival
RAYE cover Nina Simone and Billie Holiday at the 2024 edition Montreux Jazz Festival, which takes place on the Lake Geneva shoreline in Switzerland.
Following her performance on the Lake Stage as part of a double bill with Janelle Monáe, RAYE took to the stage in the intimate jazz-club setting of Montreux Jazz Festival’s Memphis to perform covers of classics for the first time such as Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and Billie Holiday’s “All of Me”.
The Montreux Jazz Festival Jam Sessions are one of the most special aspects of the festival, an open space where musicians of all backgrounds are encouraged to take the stage. They are so well renowned that it often attracts artists performing on the biggest stages such as Janelle Monaé, Lizzo, Jacob Collier, and now RAYE.
RAYE performed a career-spanning set on the Lake Stage with tracks including “The Thrill Is Gone”, “Secrets” and “You Don’t Know Me”, as well as a moving cover of James Brown’s “It’s a Man’s World”, and she closed out her sunset slot with fan favourites “Black Mascara”, “Prada” and “Escapism.”
The 2024 edition of Monteux Jazz Festival concludes on 20th July, with this year’s line-up spanning across all genres and eras of music – including Massive Attack, PJ Harvey, The Smashing Pumpkins, Jungle, Tems, Duran Duran, Sting, Kraftwerk, Lenny Kravitz and many more.
