Primavera Sound Barcelona has dedicated a stage to the late Steve Albini
Primavera Sound Barcelona, which is set to take place from 29 May - 2 June, have revealed that they will be honouring the late producer and Shellac member, Steve Albini, with a stage named after him.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that legendary producer, studio engineer and musician Steve Albini had died of a heart attack at the age of 61. His band Shellac were set to release To All Trains the following week, and were preparing to tour for the first time in a decade.
Shellac has a long-standing relationship with Primavera Sound. The website states that their "resident band" has played fourteen times at the festival, despite that the band doesn't believe that festivals are "venues for musicians or music fans", yet they have continuously made an exception.
"Farewell, Steve. Although it will be the first year since 2007 in which he will not command the inimitable Shellac at his annual date with his favourite festival, the figure of the late Steve Albini will be more present than ever at Primavera Sound. The Steve Albini stage, situated opposite the Plenitude stage, will be a tribute to an irreplaceable member of the Primavera family, although he will, in fact, be honoured in every inch of the Parc del Fòrum, during every second of the festival," a statement from the festival explains on how they will be paying tribute to Albini.
"Especially on Thursday at 18:55, when Shellac's free rock was scheduled to storm back into the festival like a ritual: at that time their stage will become the meeting point for fans who want to say goodbye to Albini while their new album, To All Trains, is playing. Inevitably Primavera Sound has lost a compass, but fortunately Steve Albini has marked the way forward forever.
