The Apple Cart 2011: Five to see + full stage times
Perhaps seen as Field Day’s more mature, grown up cousin. After last year’s false start, the inaugral edition of the Apple Cart festival is fast approaching and for many will act as a soothing hanover cure for FD’s undoubtedly manic shenanigans. We’ve gone through the lineup with a fine tooth comb and hand picked some of the delights you can expect to see at London’s Victoria Park this Sunday, 7 August. From music to magic, comedy to DJs – we’ve got it covered.
Full lineup and stage times are listed at the foot of this article. If you fancy picking up some reduced tickets, head this way.
Saint Etienne
Who? Do you really have to ask? UK indie royalty. Creators of one of the finest pop-dance crossover albums of all time with Fox Base Alpha that went on to single handedly influence generation after generation of balearic tinged goodness. Recognised as golden Gods amongst the ever burgeoning Gothenburg scene. Cool. As. Fuck.
Saint Etienne – Only Love Can Break Your Heart (2009 Extended Remix)
Sean Rowley (DJ Set)
Who? Crate digger and all-round good taste guru. What Rowley doesn’t know about old soul grooves and funk-a-delic classics isn’t worth knowing. Known for his Guilty Pleasures clubnight. Random fact: He appeared on the front cover of Oasis’ What’s The Story (Morning Glory) but don’t hold that against him.
Sly & The Family Stone – Thank You (Fa lettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
Marcus Brigstocke
Who? A regular on comedy quiz shows Have I Got News For You and Q.I, Brigstocke will appeal to those that like their humour sprinkled with a satarical edge. Watch a clip below.

Peasgood Nonsuch Magic Stage
Who? We all love magic, right? RIGHT. Promising a host of magicians suitable for all ages, the magic stage will be hosted by Richard Pinner who apparently is a bit of a big name in the magic circle. So whilst Paul Daniels is busy getting black eyes from pizza wielding hand-puppets we can sit back and take solace in the fact that some of the best magicians in the country will be entertaining confused hipsters and kids alike for the entire duration of the festival.
Sunday Girl
Who? She may be the face of River Island, but don’t hold that against her. Not only is Jade Williams handy a crafting a decent pop song, she’s also pretty tasty at arts & crafts. Oh yes. So, if you fancy taking part in some knitting activities whilst watching her perform an acoustic set alongside the quite wonderful Bright Light Bright Light – ‘Sunday Girl’s Tea Party’ might well be up your street. There will also be face painting. And candyfloss. The phrase ‘twee as fuck’ was dreamt up for moments like this. Score!
