T In The Park Festival 2013
The twentieth instalment of T In The Park festival kicks off on Friday at an abandoned airfield in Kinross, Scotland, treating well over 80,000 spectators to a diverse line-up that mixes mainstream crowd pleasers with an impressive array of independent acts. With sunshine expected all weekend, it is shaping up to be an unforgettable anniversary for Scotland’s longest running music festival.
While the festival site opens its gates on Thursday, live music won’t kick off until Friday evening when six stages will feature sets from a mixture of 36 local and internationally renowned acts. French indie-pop favourites Phoenix will play the legendary King Tut’s Wah Wah Tent before a highly anticipated performance from German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk.
Kendrick Lamar will mark his return to Scotland with a main stage slot in the early afternoon, while fellow Americans FIDLAR will surely deliver a lively and raucous set on the Transmissions Stage.
Saturday will feature performances from shoegazers My Bloody Valentine, Scottish folk-rock troubadours Frightened Rabbit and the recently reincarnated Snoop Dogg.
British indie rock will be on full display throughout the day, with Peace, Daughter, British Sea Power, Alt-J and Palma Violets all lined up to perform to the masses.
Frank Ocean and Earth Wind & Fire bring their soulful sounds to the main stage on Sunday before old faithfuls Stereophonics open up for headliners The Killers, who are playing TITP for the fifth time since making their festival debut in 2004.
Controversial rapper Tyler, The Creator will have to dish out his brand of offensive humour on his own this year, as fellow OFWGKTA affiliate Earl Sweatshirt will be unable to make it due to his ongoing health issues.
Fellow foul-mouthed rapper Azealia Banks is due to make an appearance on the Radio 1 stage in between sets from synth-pop aficionados Bastille and dance-rockers Foals.
The Transmissions Stage features a particularly strong bill on Sunday, including jazz-pop singer-songwriter Laura Mvula, Scottish electro-pop darlings CHVRCHES, Los Angeles’ rockers Local Natives, Aussie Madchester revivalists Jagwar Ma and British electro duo AlunaGeorge.
For fans of a more punk-edged sound, Trash Talk and Pronto Mama will be playing the T-Break Stage in the early afternoon, while the always impressive Yeah Yeah Yeahs will close out the King Tut’s Tent on Sunday night.
Tickets for the festival are still available via ticketmaster.
