The Phono Del Sol Music and Food Festival returns for its seventh year to Potrero del Sol park in San Francisco this June. Continually showcasing California’s best talent, the one-day festival includes just ten bands, but we've picked out our favourite five – so in between devouring all the delicious food, be sure catch these highlights.
1. Thee Oh Sees
There’s really no explanation needed as to why you should catch the Thee Oh Sees. The garage rock kings have been playing music for nearly two decades, with two albums in just the past year. You’d think by now their shows would have dulled down, but that’s anything but the truth.Their live performance brings a reckless energy that is truly wild, and there’s really no better way to close a festival...
2. The Coathangers
Atlanta punk princesses The Coathangers are another act you simply cannot miss. The trio always delivers on a raw and passionate live show. With the 2016 release of their excellent album Nosebleed Weekend, as well as their newly released EP The Parasite, The Coathangers are sure to deliver a wild set that will leave you lingering for more.
3. Never Young
After recently catching Never Young for the first time a few month’s back during SF’s Noise PopFestival, I was blown away. These Bay Area punk rockers sounded polished and brought a vibrant energy to the stage. After catching much buzz at SXSW, they are sure to bring the same buzz to this festival, and are the up-and-comers you can't afford to miss.
4. Jay Som
Oakland-based Jay Som has been creating quite a stir with her recent release Everybody Works. Recorded by herself in her Oakland home, Jay Som’s brilliant album is something we can all relate to, and will bring an intimacy that will be the perfect predecessor to the night’s punk-ridden headliners.
5. Duckwrth
The Bay area rapper, singer, and visual artist recently released I’M UUGLY, and merges sounds and visuals with a positive tone. With its powerful statements and infectious vibes, Duckwrth’s set will be sure to bring a collective dance party to the park.
