Taking place from 4-7 July on the Malsaucy Lake peninsula in Belfort, Les Eurockéennes is celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary in style with an incredible line-up that has reached into the depths of 90s indie and shoegaze, pulling out the best it has to offer and throwing into a mix alongside some of the most exciting bands of the moment.
With the whole world gearing up for a certain Worth Farm based festival this weekend we’re looking ahead to its French counterpart for many reasons, one of which being the festival site looks beautiful. Yep, often dubbed “The French Glasto” Les Eurockéennes takes places amidst hills, an old medieval town, forests and a nature reserve on the Swiss/France border – there is even a stage built in the water. As far as settings go it seems pretty unrivalled.
Then there is the line-up, which boasts Blur, Phoenix, Smashing Pumpkins and Jamiroquai as its headliners whilst acts like Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine and Skunk Anansie find themselves bulking up what is already looking like a ridiculously great list of names.
So far so 90s but then we also get acts like Skaters, FIDLAR, Parquet Courts, Tame Impala and Deap Vally to satisfy your modern guitar craving whether they be of the american party, psychedelic or stuttering Americana variety. Starting to look pretty irresistible no?
Well there is also Mykki Blanco, A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, Danny Brown and Action Bronson bringing the freshest American hip hop and rap to Europe.
Dance music more your thing, well they’ve got everything from the poppier edges of Chvrches, Is Tropical and Disclosure to the purer beats of Major Lazer and Kavinsky.
After something a bit more leftfield? Woodkid, Matthew E White and Lou Doillon have you covered.
