Gigs of The Week, 7 June
Welcome to our weekly round-up of shows happening in the grand concert halls, dimly lit basements, airy cafe’s and grimy sweatboxes across the UK and Ireland. All acts featured come with the Best Fit ‘Seal Of Approval’ so you can be assured that your hard earned cash will be well spent. To tempt your wallets this week we’ve gathered a rather London centric collection of dates from the likes of Queens of The Stone Age, Jon Hopkins and Gold Panda.
Mt. Wolf @ Union Chapel, London 07/06
Having released their second EP Hypolight earlier this year, the London four-piece are set to bring their delicate, glitch-ridden, looping harmonies – accompanied by Kate Wolf’s ever-fragile vocals – to the beautiful pews on London’s Union Chapel.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Mt. Wolf shows.
Tegan & Sara w/ Waxahatchee @ O2 ABC, Glasgow 09/06
With January’s Heartthrob album still holding its place on our collective playlists, Canadian sister duo Tegan and Sara are heading out on a full tour this month and they’re brining the ever so talented Alabama three-piece Waxahatchee with them.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Tegan and Sara shows. Check out more Waxahatchee shows.
Mykki Blanco @ Village Underground, London 10/06
The New York based “Acid Punk Rapper” is bound to captivate, thrill and terrify (if his recent video is anything to go by) in equal measure in London this week. You’d be a fool to miss what will undoubtedly be a chaotic but incredible show.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Mykki Blanco shows.
Queens of The Stone Age @ Rough Trade East, London 11/06
We imagine Josh Homme et al. are going to push Rough Trade’s Brick Lane outlet to capacity breaking point for this incredibly rare intimate outing. I wonder if anyone has ever crowd-surfed amongst the racks before?!
SOLD OUT. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Queens of The Stone Age shows.
MONEY @ The Leaf, Liverpool 11/06
Bella Union’s latest Manchester signing have just revealed their album The Shadow of Heaven will be released in August. If you’re anything like us, that sounds way too far off for our liking so we’ll be catching them on their small string of UK dates this month.
Tickets are on sale now. Check out more MONEY shows.
Jon Hopkins @ Village Underground, London 12/06
A recent album of the week here on Best Fit, Hopkin’s Immunity is a slow, ebbing, languid slice of electronic psychedelia and we can’t wait to see it envisioned live. Support comes from The Field and Nathan Fake.
SOLD OUT. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Jon Hopkins shows.
Gold Panda @ Electric Brixton, London 12/06
Another electronic behemoth returning this month, Gold Panda heads up a night that also features Dam Mantle and Luke Abbott. What fool put this on the same night as the Hopkins show – eh?
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Gold Panda shows.
Samaris @ Servant Jazz Quarters, London 13/06
Closing out the week for us will be Icelandic three-piece Samaris. Their beautiful, nuanced, eponymous debut album is due out in July but for a chance to get hooked to its rich melodies ahead of time, head to Servant Jazz Quarters.
£5 Entry. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Samaris shows.
