Gigs of the Week, 30 November
Welcome to our weekly round-up of shows happening in the grand concert halls, dimly lit basements, airy cafe’s and grimy sweatboxes across the UK and Ireland. All acts featured come with the Best Fit ‘Seal Of Approval’ so you can be assured that your hard earned cash will be well spent. To tempt your wallets this week we’ve gathered dates from the likes of FIDLAR, Suuns and Matthew Dear.
Matthew Dear @ Hare & Hounds, Birmingham 01/12
Following the release of his critically acclaimed album Beams, shifting electronic mastermind Matthew Dear is taking to the road with a full band. This is going to be good.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Matthew Dear shows.
Stars @ Oran Mor, Glasgow 02/12
Their recently released sixth album proved to be a bit of a return to form for the Canadian indie-pop veterans, inhabiting a synth heavy landscape dotted with understated new wave sensibilities, heavy C86 dreaming and hushed vocals.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Stars shows.
Wolf Alice @ 100 Club, London 03/12
Sooo we mistakenly thought are Ones to Watch darlings Wolf Alice were playing with MS MR last week, but they weren’t, so for the first time ever the same band has been included in this guide for two weeks in a row because well you can actually go and see them this time. And in our humble opinion they are by far the best thing on the bill.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Wolf Alice shows.
Suuns @ Prince Albert, Brighton 04/12
Suuns are an incredible live band. The eerie, understatedly jagged aesthetics of their recorded efforts are explored and expanded into an almost unrecognisable frenzied haze. We can’t wait to hear them road test material from their forthcoming album Images Du Futur.
Tickets are on sale now. Check out more Suuns shows.
Beth Orton & Sam Amidon @ Union Chapel, London 05/12
Having released her first full length in six years in October, this show is probably going to have the highest concentration of wide eyed fans ever witnessed. Expect beautiful, lilting folk numbers undercut by an almost cold, harsh sentimentality and off kilter vocals.
Sold Out. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Beth Orton shows.
FIDLAR @ Soup Kitchen, Manchester 06/12
“WE DRINK CHEAP BEER. SO WHAT? F**K YOU”
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more FIDLAR shows.
Kurt Vile @ The Forum, London 06/12
Our favourite esoteric, Americana distilling guitarist is back for a show with Lower Dens and Dark Dark Dark.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Kurt Vile shows.
