Gigs of the Week, 17 January
Welcome back to our weekly round-up of shows happening in the grand concert halls, dimly lit basements, airy cafe’s and grimy sweatboxes across the UK and Ireland. All acts featured come with the Best Fit ‘Seal Of Approval’ so you can be assured that your hard earned cash will be well spent. A new year, a new gigging season slowly kicks into gear so to tempt your wallets this week we’ve gathered a sparse collection of dates from the likes of I Break Horses, Son Lux and Girl Band. The only catch is, they’re all playing on the same night.
Deer Tick @ The Deaf Institute, Manchester 19/01
Providence man John McCauley, otherwise known as Deer Tick, returns with his band and a new found confidence, after the release of last year’s album Negativity convinced listeners that he could still do sprawling and taught at the same time.
Tickets are available now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Deer Tick shows.
Joanna Gruesome @ The Old Blue Last, London 20/01
Abrasive, visceral and with just the right level pop to their hooks, Joanna Gruesome have always been great but this year they look poised for bigger things. Catch them while you can for free.
FREE ENTRY. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Joanna Gruesome shows.
Outfit @ Broadcast, Glasgow 22/01
Airing songs from one of the most assured debut albums of last year, Liverpool’s Outfit are back out on the road.

Son Lux @ The Lexington, London 23/01
To see Sufjan Stevens collaborator and all around production genius Son Lux live is rare treat indeed, and at such an intimate venue you know it’s going to be good. You can stream his album in full here to see what all the fuss is about.
SOLD OUT. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more Son Lux shows.
Girl Band @ The Old Blue Last, London 23/01
The Old Blue last has had some great free shows this month but we suspect Girl Band’s particularly refreshing brand of sprawling noise will trump all else.
