Best Fit: Gigs of The Week, 9 April 2012
Welcome to our new weekly round-up of what’s happening in the grand concert halls, dimly lit basements, airy cafe’s and grimy sweatboxes across the UK. All acts featured come with the Best Fit ‘Seal Of Approval’ so you can be assured that your hard earned cash will be well spent. To tempt your wallets this week, we’ve gathered dates from Sufjan Stevens and Torches.
Sufjan Stevens, Bryce Dessner and Nico Muhly @ The Barbican, London 09/04
If you’re not excited by the prospect of a collaboration between Sufjan Stevens, The Nationals’ Bryce Dessner and Nico Muhly, (the Manhattan based composer who has worked with the likes of Grizzly Bear, Anthony & The Johnsons, Sam Amidon & Jonsi) then quite frankly we’re not sure what will tempt you out of the house this week. Appearing with the New Trombone Collective and the Navarra String Quartet, the trio are set to present a song cycle entitled Planetarium, from which the below track ‘Venus’ is taken.

Sea of Bees @ The Cockpit, Leeds 11/04
We’ve been keeping a close eye on the Sacremento based vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Julie Baenziger ever since she release her debut album Songs For The Ravens last year. Now, she is back this week with her second Heavenly Recordings full length Orangefarben and having got our mits on it early (stream the record in full and check out our ‘Track By Track’ article here) we’re pretty excited to hear it live. Oh and as an added bonus she’ll be supported by Stealing Sheep.

Torches @ Paper Dress Vintage, London 11/04
With a string of sullen, brooding electronic numbers behind them East London four-piece torches will be bringing their particular brand of atmospheric pop to our night at Paper Dress Vintage this week.
No advance tickets, £3 on the door. RSVP via Facebook.
Savages @ Rich Mix, London, 13/04
With only a handful of live dates under their belt, gothic post punk quartet Savages have more than grabbed our attention with their primal, viscous and venomous efforts.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. For more live dates head here.
Toy @ Thekla, Bristol, 14/04
Fresh from a residency at London’s Shacklewell Arms pyschadelic five-piece Toy have set their sites westward and will be taking their ever developing motorik inspired beats with them.
Tickets are on sale now via Alt-Tickets. RSVP via Facebook. For more live dates head here.
