Welcome to our new weekly round-up of what’s happening in the grand concert halls, dimly lit basements, airy cafe’s and grimy sweatboxes across the UK. All acts featured come with the Best Fit ‘Seal Of Approval’ so you can be assured that your hard earned cash will be well spent. To tempt your wallets this week, we’ve gathered dates from I Ching, The Antlers and Rufus & Martha Wainwright.
I Ching @ Servant Jazz Quarters, London 23/04
Best Fit Recordings signing I Ching will be launching their hypnotising debut single ‘Its Me’/‘Drive’ in the heart of Dalston today. The brainchild of Rollo Smallcombe and Kevin Emre, the pair play their textured noir pop as a four piece live: For a little taste of that check out the session we recorded with them below.
Tickets will be available on the door. RSVP via Faceboo for £3 guestlist. Check out more dates here.
Jack White w/ Smoke Fairies @ HMV Forum, London 23/04
With Smoke Fairies filling the support slot and the promise of hearing his new Blunderbuss featured material for the first time in the UK, Jack White’s show at HMV’s Kentish Town Forum is definitely this week’s hot ticket. Don’t worry if you missed the ticket rush on this one, he’ll be coming back in June with Best Fit favourites First Aid Kit.
This show is long sold out. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more dates here.
AU @ Castle Hotel, Manchester 24/04
Continuing to push the parameters of what a guitar band can mean, Portland duo AU are heading to Manchester in support of their recently released third album Both Lights.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more dates here.
Chairlift w/ Outfit @ The Scala, London 25/04
Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly have been making rare appearances in the UK since the release of their sophomore Chairlift record Something. Brimming with powerful pop harmonies and down tempo avant garde numbers the record and the intoxicating dance moves caught up in it translate into a live setting perfectly.
Tickets are on sale now. Check out more dates here.
Ryan Adams @ The Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow 26/04
With a career spanning over 10 years and a back catalogue to match, Ryan Adams thirteenth studio album Ashes & Fire, released last year, saw him return from somewhat of a creative rut and it is these beautiful, simply arranged and strikingly honest songs that we can expect to fill Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall tonight.
Tickets are sold out. Check out more dates here.
The Antlers @ Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London 26/04
The Antlers have come a long way from the lone musings of guitarist/vocalist Peter Silberman. To see just how much they’ve grown and hear tracks from their two stunning full length records you should get yourself down to Shepherd’s Bush for their one off UK dates.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more dates here.
Ane Brun @ Vicar Street, Dublin 27/04
Ane Brun creates the kind of brooding, soulful atmosphere that makes us go a little weak at the knees. The Norwegian songstress recorded a session for us a while back and if you just listen to one note of her fragile, tortured voice you will understand why.
Tickets are on sale now. RSVP via Facebook. Check out more dates here.
Rufus Wainwright & Martha Wainwright, IndigO2 London 29/04
This show presents a pretty unique opportunity to see Rufus and Martha Wainwright pay tribute to their mother’s work in the same manner as they did in May 2011 when a community fo friends, family and fans fathered at New York City’s Town Hall Theatre. This emotionally charged concert featured performances from Michael Ondaatje, Norah Jones, Teddy Thompson, Antony, Jimmy Fallon, Emmylou Harris, Krystle Warren, Justin Vivian Bond, Anna McGarrigle, Jenny Muldaur, Rufus, Martha and all the family and while we don’t know exactly who might show up for tonight, we do know that Martha and Rufus will be performing their mother’s work after a screening of Lian Lunson’s documentary on Sarah McGarrigle.
