Police in Nevada serve new search warrant in connection with Tupac Shakur's murder
Las Vegas police confirmed yesterday (18 July) that they have issued a search warrant in connection with the unsolved murder of rapper Tupac Shakur.
Tupac Shakur, also known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was fatally shot in September 1996 at the age of 25 in a drive-by shooting in Nevada.
2Pac was leaving a boxing match at the MGM Grand hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. At the time of his fatal shooting, he was in a car with former Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight when a white Cadillac pulled up beside them and began shooting out of the back window. To this day, the investigation has remained unsolved.
In a statement, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said, “LVMPD can confirm a search warrant was served in Henderson, Nevada, on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing Tupac Shakur homicide investigation. We will have no further comment at this time.”
In 2017, Shakur was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Snoop Dogg. In June of this year, the rapper received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He’s also had some museum exhibits that paid homage to his life, including Tupac Shakur. Wake Me When I’m Free which opened in 2021 in Los Angeles.
Earlier this year the docuseries surrounding 2Pac and his relationship with his mother, Afeni Shakur, aired on Hulu. Dear Mama is described as "an intimate wide-angle portrait of the most inspiring and dangerous mother-son duo in American history, whose unified message of freedom, equality, persecution and justice are more relevant today than ever."
Dear Mama is available now to watch on Hulu.
