Pitchfork nominated for National Magazine Award weeks after lay-offs
Yesterday, it was announced that Pitchfork were nominated in the category of General Excellence at the National Magazine Awards, for the work they created in 2023.
National Magazine Awards, according to their website, "honour print and digital publications that consistently demonstrate superior execution of editorial objectives, innovative techniques, noteworthy enterprise and imaginative design." The nomination for Pitchfork is quite bittersweet in the fact that it comes after the company announced they were being absorbed by GQ, as announced last month by their parent company Condé Nast.
The decision was made after what Anna Wintour, chief content officer for Condé Nast, called “a careful evaluation of Pitchfork’s performance," explaining that they were taking “the best path forward for the brand so that our coverage of music can continue to thrive within the company.”
National Magazine Awards 2024 finalists and winners will be honoured at the annual presentation of the ASME Awards at Terminal 5 in New York, on 2 April. For more information, visit asme.media.
