Paul McCartney joined by Ringo Starr and Ronnie Wood for closing night of Got Back tour

Playing to a 20,000-strong audience, Starr joined McCartney onstage for performances of "Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "Helter Skelter". The 84-year old drummer then left the stage after saying: "I’m off now, I’ve had a great night and I love you all."

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood also came out for "Get Back", which saw an outing for McCartney's original Hofner 500/1 bass for the first time in 50 years. Famously, the bass was stolen in 1972, before being returned earlier this year.

"We've been looking for it for 50 years, well, I got it back!" he told the audience. "And here to make its first stage appearance in 50 years... is my original bass! I haven't played it in 50 years."

Got Back was McCartney's first set of live shows since 2019 after the pandemic scuppered the final leg of his Freshen Up tour, including a planned performance at Glastonbury Festival as the final show.

This week's two London shows shared identical setlists and included songs from his McCartney's solo career alongside Wings and Beatles numbers. A duet with Lennon for "I Gotta Feeling", appearing via archival video footage – also part of his 2022 Glastonbury set – was a high point in the show. McCartney was also joined on stage by a choir of children for a performance of "Wonderful Christmastime".

There were few deep cuts at the London shows but soundcheck sets for VIP ticket holders earlier in the day saw performances of "Temporary Secretary", "Ram On" and coverse of Little Richard's "Miss Ann" and Carl Perkins' "Matchbox".
