Paramore's Hayley Williams calls Chappell Roan's comments on boundaries "brave and unfortunately necessary"
Last week, Chappell Roan posted a video asking for fans to respect her boundaries when they see her in person.
"I don’t give a fuck if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time or for a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird. It’s weird how people think that you know a person just ’cause you see them online or you listen to the art they make," she said in the original video.
On Saturday, she shared a further post clarifying her words. In the caption of the post, she wrote: "I understand that this is jarring “ to hear from a person in my position. I’m not afraid of the consequences for demanding respect. Just to let you know, every woman is feeling or has felt similar to what I’m experiencing. This isn’t a new situation."
Hayley Williams, vocalist of Paramore, shared the post to her Instagram Story and praised Chappell Roan for setting boundaries, writing: “read the whole thing and the caption too. this happens to every woman i know from this business, myself included. social media has made this worse. i’m really thankful chappell is willing to address it in a real way, in real time. it’s brave and unfortunately necessary.”
In a final video, posted after the written statement, Chappell Roan said: “Now you know how I feel. When a woman is upset and says something the automatic response is to be like ‘yo chill.’ It’s not chill, so I’m not going to be chill.”
Adele recently gave advice to Chappell Roan: "do what you've gotta do baby girl, you're phenomenal".
