Paramore make history as first female-fronted band to win Best Rock Album at Grammys
At the 66th annual Grammy Awards, Paramore made history as the first female-fronted band to win Best Rock Album, for their sixth studio album, This Is Why.
At the pre-show ceremony for the Grammy Awards, This Is Why won Best Rock Album, and its title track won Best Alternative Music Performance. Paramore are the first female-fronted band to ever win Best Rock Album, following the likes of The Black Keys, The Strokes, Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin. Female solo artists Alanis Morissette and Sheryl Crow won the award in the ’90s.
This Is Why was up against Foo Fighters’ But Here We Are, Greta Van Fleet’s Starcatcher, Metallica’s 72 Seasons, and Queens Of The Stone Age’s In Times New Roman… in Best Rock Album. For Best Alternative Music Performance, they won over Arctic Monkeys’ “Body Paint,” Boygenius’ “Cool About It,” and Lana Del Rey’s “A&W.
Acknowledging the award on their social media pages, the band wrote: "And they didn’t even leave the house. “THANK YOU @recordingacademy” - Hayley, Taylor, & Zac". Paramore had previously been nominated for four Grammys, including Best New Artist in 2008. In 2015, Hayley Williams and Taylor York won Grammy for "Ain’t In Fun”. The track features on their 2013 self-titled fourth studio album.
This Is Why is the final release from Paramore within their contract with Atlantic Records. They have since released Re: This Is Why as their first independent release, which featured new versions of the songs from their sixth studio album, which featured the likes of Julien Baker on "Thick Skull", "Liar", with The xx's Romy on vocals, a Remi Wolf cover of "You First", a more subdued and acoustic interpretation of "Figure 8" by Bartees Strange, and an unmistakable cover of "C'est Comme Ça by Wet Let's Rhian Teasdale.
Paramore's cover of "Burning Down The House" is out now, which features on the tribute album, Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense.
