Paramore are this year’s Ambassadors for Record Store Day
In a recent post on their social media pages, Paramore discussed their new independence, and announced that they are the ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024.
"After a long career in the music industry we have decided to announce that… we are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience)," the band's statement began, addressing rumours that they would be splitting following their contract with Atlantic Records ending after two decades
"Our first order of business as a freshly independent Paramore is to shine a light on independent records stores — a vital part of our journey from music obsessed school friends to professional music makers. With that being said, we are humbled to be your Ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024. The timing feels kismet," they continued. "The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic. Indie record shops are some of the only spaces we’ve got that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy."
Following their sixth studio album, This Is Why, and it's follow-up of remixes, Paramore released Re: This Is Why, which featured Julien Baker on "Thick Skull", "Liar", with The xx's Romy on vocals, a Remi Wolf cover of "You First", a more subdued and acoustic interpretation of "Figure 8" by Bartees Strange, and an unmistakable cover of "C'est Comme Ça by Wet Let's Rhian Teasdale.
Paramore recently made history as the first female-fronted band to win Best Rock Album at the Grammys since solo artists Alanis Morissette and Sheryl Crow won the award in the ’90s, and are also set to feature on the forthcoming Talking Heads compilation, Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense, on which they cover "Burning Down The House".
Paramore's cover of "Burning Down The House" is out now. Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense will follow later this year.
