Paramore announce first album in over five years with title-track "This Is Why"
Paramore are finally back with news of their upcoming album This Is Why, and have released the title-track as the lead outing, marking their first new material in more than five years.
"This Is Why" is the lead single from Paramore's first album in over five years, and arrives with a video directed by Turnstile’s Brendan Yates.
Hayley Williams says of the track, ""This Is Why" was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album. It summarises the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last three or four years. You’d think after a global pandemic of fucking biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something."
This Is Why will follow Paramore's 2017 album After Laughter, and was recorded in LA with longtime collaborator Carlos de la Garza. It'll feature 10 songs in total, but the tracklist is yet to be revealed.
Yesterday (27 September) Hayley Williams wrote in a note to fans about the band's return, "For so many reasons I don't even have words for, I think we are about to experience our happiest and most fulfilling moments as Paramore."
"This Is Why" is out now. Paramore's album of the same name will be released via Atlantic Records on 10 February 2023, and is available to pre-order now.
