OVO-signed artist Naomi Sharon announces her debut album, Obsidian
Dutch and Caribbean singer/songwriter Naomi Sharon – the first female artist to be signed to Drake's label OVO Sound – announces her forthcoming debut album, Obsidian, alongside the brand new single “Regardless".
The track was co-written by Christian Beau Anastasiou Astrop, Alex Lustig, and Jack Rochon.
"Obsidian is a protective stone that shields against negative energy. Given its sharpness, the stone is considered to pierce into darkness to reveal the truth itself. I called this album ‘Obsidian’ as it’s about rebirth, confrontation and healing," Sharon says, adding that the album "is just me being very vulnerable and that’s something that I’m missing in the industry right now.”
Earlier this year, it was announced that Naomi Sharon signed to OVO Sound as their first female signee. Since then, she has released singles and various remixes featuring production by Noah "40" Shebib, Alex Lustig, Beau Nox, Rampa, and more.
Born and raised in Rotterdam, Sharon always gravitated towards the stage. In the early years, that inner storyteller instinct was channeled into theatre, with Sharon going on to attend drama college for 3 years before being cast in roles in productions such as Dream Girls, Lion King, and Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.
When she had to undergo vocal surgery due to the stress on her voice, it clicked for Sharon that it was time to break out on her own. “When I was recovering and I had to relearn my voice again, I thought maybe I should use this moment and do this for myself - see what my voice means within a song. And that’s really how "The Moon" was made,” she says of her debut single which was released in 2019.
