Olivia Rodrigo reveals her new album is almost finished
Taking to her socials, yesterday (21 May), Olivia Rodrigo updated fans on the status of her forthcoming album.
During the two year anniversary of her Grammy-winning debut album, SOUR, Rodrigo took a moment to celebrate the release, and reflect on how it changed her life – "no words could ever describe how much this album means to me and how insanely grateful I feel for every blessing it has brought into my life," she wrote.
Earlier this year, on the second anniversary of her debut single "Drivers License" in January, she teased that she was working on new music, and was excited to share it, following a Spotify Wrapped message to her top fans, where she confirmed that 2023 will bring new music.
On the Instagram post – which featured a picture of her in a party hat, and other clips from 2021 when she was in the SOUR era – Rodrigo shared that the new music is "so close to being done".
Rodrigo's debut album was followed by two Disney+ specials. Sour Prom – the prom-themed concert which premiered on a YouTube livestream – as well as the documentary Driving Home 2 U (A Sour Film) – a documentary which sees Rodrigo take a road trip from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. Along the way, she recounts the memories of recording and writing her debut album.
Since the 2021 release of SOUR, Rodrigo has been included on the High School Musical: The Musical soundtrack, due to her starring role as Nini Salazar-Roberts, who plays Gabriella Montez in the original.
