Olivia Rodrigo releases brand new single, "Bad Idea Right?"
Earlier this week, Olivia Rodrigo announced the second single taken from her forthcoming album, GUTS.
The announcement of "Bad Idea Right?" came just a week after she had revealed the tracklist of the follow-up to her 2021 debut, SOUR. The track follows "vampire", which was released earlier this year.
Rodrigo sent out an email to fans, writing that she’s “so stoked” to share the track with them. “The song is pretty different from vampire & shows another side of GUTS that’s a little more fun & playful,” she added. “cannot wait to share it with you alllllll. love to ya always!”
The accompanying video features Rodrigo at a house party alongside IRL friends, such as Petra Collins, Tate McRae, Iris Apatow and Madison Hu. The video is also directed by Collins.
“‘Bad Idea Right?’ started with us making a joke song about me hooking up with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were actually onto something,” Rodrigo said in a statement. “We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall — in one of the choruses there’s a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it’s me gradually screaming louder and louder.”
"Bad Idea Right?" is out now. GUTS arrives on 8 September via Geffen Records.
