Nicki Minaj samples Billie Eilish on "Are You Gone Already"
Last Friday (8 December), Nicki Minaj released Pink Friday 2 – the follow-up to her 2010 breakthrough release, Pink Friday.
The highly anticipated 22-track album contains collaborations with the likes of J Cole, Future, Drake, Lil Wayne, and Lil Uzi Vert. Originally due in October, Minaj had to push the release date "due to some really exciting news that I’ll share with you guys @ a later time, I’ve shifted the album date just a tad bit. Trust me, it’ll be WELL WORTH THE WAIT," she explained.
Just hours ahead of the album's release, Minaj took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to tease fans with news of a collaboration with Billie Eilish. “Schmillie Schmeilish may or may not be the intro of #PinkFriday2," she wrote, before confirming the track's title and adding: "Yes you heard what I said. The one. The only. The young ICON. The Talent. The beauty."

Track 1. #AreYouGoneAlready
Yes you heard what I said.
The one
The only
The young ICON
The Talent
The beauty
This intro is just…
Wow
Earlier this month, Minaj revealed that it took her nearly a year to finish the song. "I ran from it. Couldn’t stop crying. You’ll hear me say the date that I wrote the 2nd verse of the song. ON the song," Nicki wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, adding that it's her "absolute best intro" for an album.
"Are You Gone Already" features a sample of the Billie Eilish track, "when the party's over", which is taken from her 2019 debut album WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. Minaj's verses feature her rapping about her late father Robert Maraj, delving into her grief following his death, and the despair she feels that her son Papa Bear was never able to meet him.
