Nicki Minaj announces immersive 3D shopping experience, Nicki Minaj's Gag City
Nicki Minaj, has entered Roblox for the first time with the launch of her virtual shop in her very own Gag City, which was created by Karta – an award-winning metaverse studio in collaboration with Republic Records.
The launch of Nicki Minaj's Gag City coincides with the launch of Nicki Minaj’s new album, Pink Friday 2. With an immersive pink 3D shopping experience in Gag City, users will have the option to buy emotes – expressive character animations for Roblox avatars – and Minaj-themed digital items. All of the items relate to hernew album and some of her incredible career highlights to date, such as her hit songs "Superbass", "Anaconda", "Starships".
“I’m so excited to unveil this Gag City project, to give fans a new way of connecting with me and my music," Minaj says. "This is the perfect way to celebrate the launch of Pink Friday 2 as my BARBZ will be able to dress up just like me. Can’t wait to see thousands of Roblox Nickis running around Gag City!”
For an enhanced experience, virtual photo opportunities are built in where visitors can take selfies or use the virtual photo booth and will then be able to share them on social media. As well as this, the virtual shop will have various Nick Minaj themed UGC (user-generated content) items for fans to try on or purchase, with fashion pieces such as a white jacket, a corset top, baggy trousers, an ombre hairstyle, a hairstyle headpiece and short pink hair.
Earlier this year, Minaj became the first self-named female Operator of the Call of Duty franchise, in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 2, as part of the game’s “50 Years of Hip Hop Celebration" where she was joined by Snoop Dogg and 21 Savage. She also recently announced the forthcoming world tour in support of Pink Friday 2, which includes a headline date at The O2 Arena in London on 28 May.
