Nick Cave and Warren Ellis to score Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black
Nick Cave and Warren Ellis have been announced to soundtrack the forthcoming Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black, which is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
“Nick and Warren were the only musicians in my mind to score Back to Black. Over the years, I’ve listened to everything they’ve composed and longed to realise the dream of working together," Taylor-Johnson said. "Their sensibility as well as understanding of this story has led to a profoundly deep and moving film score.”
Cave and Ellis have collaborated for over a decade, and have scored multiple films including The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Road and, most recently, Blonde, which is Marilyn Monroe biopic starring Ana de Armas.

Back to Black is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey, Nowhere Boy, A Million Little Pieces), and sees Industry's Marisa Abela star as Winehouse, and Jack O’Connell (Skins, This Is England, Unbroken) appearing as Blake Fielder-Civil, Winehouse’s former husband. This is the first Amy Winehouse film to be backed by her family, following multiple unauthorised releases including 2015's Amy and 2018's Amy Winehouse: Back to Black. Taylor-Johnson completed the film with writer Martin Greenhalgh; the pair previously worked together on the 2009 John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy.
Back to Black will reportedly be released on 12 April in the UK.
